Picto-ETUDES

INSAVALOR and the Polymer Materials Engineering (IMP) laboratory mobilize a wide range of skills and technological resources for the industry

Areas

  • Study and understanding of the relationships between the structure and properties of polymer materials: thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers and composites.
  • Expertise on polymer and silicone materials
  • Formulation of thermoplastics or thermosetting materials to provide new properties (mechanical, electrical, thermal, fireproofing, waterproofing, etc.)
  • Physico-chemical analyzes of polymers

Expertise

  • Physico-chemical characterizations of polymer materials: knowledge of analysis techniques for polymers and plastic materials.
  • Formulation of thermosetting resins (epoxy, polyurethane)
  • Study of structure/property relationships on materials.
  • Expertise in silicone materials and in general on polymers.

Technical means

  • Chemical characterizations of polymers : IR spectroscopy (MIR and NIR), Raman microscopy, NMR, size exclusion chromatography (SEC)…
  • Physical characterizations : thermal (ATG, DSC, ATG coupled with IR spectroscopy), mechanical (traction, bending, dynamic fatigue, Charpy shock, adhesion), study of fiber/resin interfacial adhesion in composites (Textechno pull out machine), viscoelastic ( rheology, DMA), surface (surface tension), dielectric, thermal conductivity, microscopic (SEM, TEM…), UV photo-polymerization (DSC-UV, UV rheology).
  • Formulations : formulation on a laboratory scale (micro extruder, twin screw extruder, Haake type internal mixer, planetary, rolling mill, calender)…

Application examples

  • Production of formulations based on biosourced polymers (PBSA, PLA, PBAT, etc.).
  • Formulation of PC/ABS type thermoplastics for flame retardant properties.
  • Study of PVC floor coverings with defects.
  • Study of composites with thermoplastic matrix (PAEK, PPS, etc.) and carbon fibers, basalt fiber: structure, property, crystallinity.
  • Analytical study of silicones (LSR, HTV) and relationship of structure and properties.
  • Expertise in silicone breast implants.
  • Study of bubbling defects in polyurethane parts.
  • Study of the crosslinking kinetics of epoxies.
