Inauguration of the High-Throughput / AI Characterization Platform
On October 15, 2025, the IMP Laboratory – Engineering of Polymeric Materials (UMR CNRS 5223) inaugurated the new AMETHYST platform, a cutting-edge infrastructure supported by the PEPR DIADEM program and hosted at INSA Lyon.
The event took place in the presence of Marie-Christine Baietto, Director of Research and Innovation at INSA Lyon, Jannick Duchet-Rumeau, Director of the IMP Laboratory, Jean-Marc Petit, Director of the LIRIS Laboratory, as well as numerous researchers, engineers, and industrial partners.
A platform at the crossroads of materials science and artificial intelligence
The AMETHYST project, part of the PEPR DIADEM program, is dedicated to the accelerated design of polymer materials through the combination of artificial intelligence tools and high-throughput preparation and characterization methods.
This innovative approach enables rapid exploration of new formulations of polymer-matrix composites and nanocomposites, automating the stages of mixing, processing, and analysis.
A first phase already up and running
The first phase of the project includes the implementation, within the IMP Laboratory, of a high-throughput characterization platform developed in partnership with data scientists from LIRIS.
This unique equipment allows the collection and analysis of large volumes of experimental data, paving the way for a new generation of intelligent materials.
A collaborative and forward-looking project
The inauguration showcased AMETHYST’s first achievements and highlighted the ambitions of this unique platform within the French academic landscape.
Researchers and industrial partners expressed strong interest in this initiative, which sits at the intersection of materials science and artificial intelligence, and reflects the innovative momentum driven by INSA Lyon, the supervisory institution of the IMP and LIRIS laboratories, together with its partners.
